The World Association of Newspapers and the World Editors Forum will conduct study tours to the United Kingdom and the American West next month to examine two crucial strategies for newspaper companies: the integration of print and digital newsrooms in a period of crisis, and the development of targeted print and digital products for multimedia audience growth and revenue making.
The WEF United Kingdom study tour, from 26 to 30 April, will examine integrated newsrooms at both national and regional titles. The WAN Shaping the Future of the Newspaper tour to the American West, from 26 April to 1 May, will examine new revenue-making and audience building products from a variety of successful media companies in Colorado and California.
The UK study tour includes visits to The Daily Telegraph, The Guardian, The Financial Times, The Times of London/News International, the BBC, Birmingham Evening Post, Northcliffe Media, Trinity Mirror Regionals, The Lancashire Evening Post, Johnston Press and the University of Central Lancashire.
The American West tour includes visits to the Denver Post, MediaNews Group, ASTECH InterMedia, Printcasting.com, the Media Management Center, Adify, Hewlett Packard/HP Labs, Yahoo! and The Bakersfield Californian.
The Paris-based WAN, the global organisation for the newspaper industry, defends and promotes press freedom and the professional and business interests of newspapers world-wide. Representing 18,000 newspapers, its membership includes 77 national newspaper associations, newspaper companies and individual newspaper executives in 102 countries, 12 news agencies and 11 regional and world-wide press groups.
