NBC Universal partners distributors to offer free Mun2 preview

nbc_universal_logoSixty seven million multichannel video programming distributor (MVPD) subscribers will enjoy free 24-hour access to mun2 (moon-dos), Telemundo’s Latino youth cable network, as part of NBC Universal’s free preview stunt to offer a live broadcast of Rumbo Al Mundial – Mexico vs. USA World Cup qualifier match – in English on August 12, 2009. Partnerships with major MVPDs include AT&T U-verseSM TV, Charter, Comcast, DirecTV, DISH Network and Time Warner Cable.

This will be the first-ever live sporting event to air on Telemundo and mun2 simultaneously, and the first time mun2 will broadcast a major sporting event. Coverage will begin at 3:55 (p.m. ET) and 12:55 (p.m. PT) on mun2. The network will offer exclusive game announcers, graphics and an English-language feed for this novel mun2 television event.

Mexico’s World Cup qualifying match against the U.S. is the latest installment in an ongoing rivalry between the two nations. Coverage of the game on mun2 will be called “Showdown at the Azteca.” mun2, the lifestyle cable network for bicultural Latinos 18-34, recently surpassed 32 million U.S. households in national distribution and is carried by numerous major MVPDs on digital basic packages in the top media markets.

The broadcast of the game will be preceded by a special edition of “The mun2 Shuffle.” The show will have pre-game fun facts and taped music performances. Immediately following the game, mun2 will also air a special “mun2 presents- The Best of mun2.” This show will give subscribers highlights of all of mun2′s original shows like “The Chicas Project,” “The mun2 The Hook Up,” “Reventon Countdown” and “18 and Over,” among others.

Additionally, Cablevision and Verizon FiOS TV currently distribute mun2 to the vast majority of their subscribers.
