Dear Dennis Maguire,
Here’s a little story when I was a student at Queen’s University,Belfast, I worked as a waiter in a holiday camp in Norfolk, England. The Cockney girls from London called me Danny. After dinner one night they said did I know the song Danny Boy and I said I am Danny Boy.”Will you sing it?” So I sung Danny Boy and the tears were running down the girls’ faces. I said”Am I that bad?” And they said no it’s a sad song. Next thing 2 redcoats put me on stage to sing Danny Boy and how I felt like a big star. The campers were delighted because they knew me as a waiter and I played all sports with them. I was then asked to sing Elvis and chose ‘The wonder of you’ for all the people at the holiday camp. It was such an enjoyable experience but I did not get a contract.
The story of Danny Boy, I believe was about his wife or girl friend who died when he went off fighting for his country –what a waste like Afghanistan. I sent an email to Obama at the Whitehouse on how to stop this war and save the lives of all those brave young men. I have a painting called Jesus-why?, Afghanistan. Danny boy would be a great film to make and it would be great to get a part.
Yours sincerely,
Denis Maguire
