Los Angeles: Actors Kate Winslet and Peter Dinklage have received the Golden Globes award for the best performance in television mini series.

Winslet walked away with the best actress award in TV mini-series for "Mildred Pierce", beating Romola Garai for "The Hour", Diane Lane for Cinema Verite, Elizabeth McGovern for "Downton Abbey (Masterpiece)" and Emily Watson for "Appropriate Adult".

Dinklage won the award for "Game Of Thrones". Others nominated in this category were Paul Giamatti for "Too Big To Fail", Guy Pearce for "Mildred Pierce", Tim Robbins for "Cinema Verite" and Eric Stonestreet for "Modern Family".

Los Angeles: Singer-songwriter Madonna's number "Masterpiece" from her directorial project "W.E.", won the best original song – motion picture at the Golden Globes ceremony here Sunday.

The other songs nominated in the category included "Hello hello…" from "Gnomeo & Juliet", "Keeper, the…" from " Machine Gun Preacher", "Lay your head down" from "Albert Nobbs", "Living proof, the…" from "The Help".

Hollywood: Paramount Pictures announced today it ended 2011 in the No. 1 position among all studios, having achieved the highest total combined gross of any studio for the year, earning a record $5.17 billion worldwide. The studio, which released a total of 16 new releases domestically this year, placed first in the North American market share with $1.96 billion, while also amassing record grosses at the international box office with $3.21 billion.

"This achievement reflects the combined efforts of our entire team across the globe and the careful process by which we select the projects and partners we believe in," said Paramount Pictures Chairman & CEO Brad Grey. "We produce pictures that aspire to entertain audiences around the world, while at the same time we have sought to find innovative ways to reach movie-goers in this changing entertainment environment.

BETC London has created a series of posters for the Oxjam music festival that combine headlines conveying Oxfam’s humanitarian challenges with the design of typical gig posters in powerful pastiche.
 
The posters, which will appear in the Brixton area in the run-up to Oxjam Brixton on October 23, employ titles such as ‘Refugees – In The House Tonight’ and ‘Badly Neglected Boy – Alive’ but are designed  in the style of different musical genres.

London" Super model Miranda Kerr turns guest editor as she'll take charge of an Australian wellbeing magazine for an edition.

Actor Orlando Bloom's wife is the guest editor of the Sep 18 issue of the Body + Soul supplement, which is part of the country's The Sunday Telegraph.

The 28-year-old will share with readers her tips to a healthy lifestyle through the edition.

"If you have love, first of all love and appreciation for yourself, then you are going to eat healthily and you are going to take care of yourself and exercise," dailystar.co.uk quoted Kerr as saying.

"When you do that, you can give so much love to other people because you have the energy to give. That's what gives me a healthy body and a healthy soul," she added.

Turner Classic Movies (TCM) will present a special encore of its Emmy nominated documentary series Moguls & Movie Stars: A History of Hollywood. The expansive seven-part series will air in its entirety on Monday, Sept. 5, beginning at 12:45 p.m. (ET). 

Moguls & Movie Stars has earned three Emmy nominations, the most ever for a TCM production. The nominations included Outstanding Nonfiction Series, Outstanding Voice-Over Performance for narrator Christopher Plummer and Outstanding Writing for Nonfiction Programming for writer/producer Jon Wilkman.

Moguls & Movie Stars: A History of Hollywood tells the extraordinary tale of the American movie industry. Spanning from the invention of the first moving pictures to the revolutionary, cutting-edge films of the 1960s, this ambitious production is an epic history of Hollywood, detailing the personalities, inter-personal relationships, collaborations and conflicts that created an industry and established a new art form. Moguls & Movie Stars was produced by TCM in association with Bill Haber’s Ostar Productions.

Turner Classic Movies (TCM) will celebrate Halloween and Christmas this year with two all-new specials produced by DreamWorks Television and award-winning filmmaker and author Laurent Bouzereau and presented as part of TCM’s ongoing A Night at the Movies documentary series.

In October, TCM will premiere A Night at the Movies: The Horrors of Stephen King, with the master storyteller himself discussing the classic horror films that influenced him the most. And in December, A Night at the Movies: Merry Christmas! will take viewers on a magical journey through some of the greatest holiday films ever made.

TCM’s A Night at the Movies specials are written, produced and directed by Bouzereau, who has been directing documentaries on the films of Steven Spielberg and other directors since 1994. Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey (TNT’s Falling Skies) serve as executive producers. The series began in October 2009 with A Night at the Movies: The Suspenseful World of Thrillers, followed in December 2009 with A Night at the Movies: The Gigantic World of Epics.

In A Night at the Movies: The Horrors of Stephen King, which premieres on TCM Monday, Oct. 3, at 8 p.m. (ET), Stephen King discusses how he discovered terror at the movies. The best-selling author and filmmaker takes viewers on a journey through many aspects of the horror genre, including vampires, zombies, demons and ghosts. He also examines the fundamental reasons behind moviegoers’ incessant craving for being frightened. Along the way, he discusses the movies that have had a real impact on his writing, including Freaks (1932), Cat People (1942), Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1956), Night of the Living Dead (1968), The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (1974), Jaws (1975), Halloween (1978) and The Changeling (1980), to name a few.

A Night at the Movies: The Horrors of Stephen King will kick off an entire month of classic horror on TCM, with each Monday night’s lineup packed with memorable chillers. The offerings include Universal classics like Frankenstein (1931) and The Wolf Man (1941), Val Lewton thrillers like Cat People (1942) and I Walked with a Zombie (1943), Hammer classics like Horror of Dracula (1958) and cult favorites from William Castle and Roger Corman, to name a few.

Premiering Tuesday, Dec. 6, at 8 p.m. A Night at the Movies: Merry Christmas! will be a tinsel-filled journey through the most iconic holiday films of all time, including perennial favorites It’s A Wonderful Life (1946) and Miracle on 34th Street (1947). The special will look at variations within the genre, such as holiday romances, family movies and even thrillers. A Night at the Movies: Merry Christmas will feature behind-the-scenes stories and personal Hollywood Christmas memories from the likes of Chevy Chase, Margaret O’Brien, Chazz Palminteri, Deborah Raffin, Karolyn Grimes, Zack Ward, Brian Henson, Joe Dante, Petrine Day Mitchum, authors Julie Salamon and Alonso Duralde, A Christmas Carol expert Michael Patrick Hearn and many more.

A Night at the Movies: Merry Christmas! will be accompanied by an entire month of great holiday films on TCM, including A Christmas Carol (1938), Meet Me in St. Louis (1944) and both the 1933 and 1949 versions of Little Women.

DreamWorks Television is currently in production on three network series and two cable dramas: FOX’s  Terra Nova, which follows an ordinary family on an incredible journey back in time which premieres this September; NBC’s Smash, which chronicles the development of an original Broadway musical, starring Katharine McPhee, Debra Messing and Angelica Huston and premiering in January 2012; ABC’s The River, a new genre thriller executive-produced with Oren Peli (Paranormal Activity), which premieres Spring 2012; TNT’s Falling Skies, starring Noah Wyle, an hour-long science-fiction drama focusing on the last of humankind’s fight against aliens following a global invasion; and The Borgias, starring Jeremy Irons, which focuses on the historical Italian aristocratic crime family of the same name, for Showtime.

As the world commemorates the 10th anniversary of the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, Turner Classic Movies (TCM) will mark the occasion with a special night of films chosen by two brave first-responders. Patrick McNally, retired Chief of Operations of the New York City Fire Department, and Vernon Webb, retired Supervisory Special Agent of the Pentagon Force Protection Agency, will join TCM weekend-daytime host Ben Mankiewicz in presenting four outstanding American films, beginning Sunday, Sept. 11, at 8 p.m. (ET).

Patrick McNally was on site at the World Trade Center when each of the twin towers fell, and worked exclusively at the site through the following November. McNally, whose 25th wedding anniversary was on Sept. 11, 2001, had planned a golf date with his wife, Liz, before he got the emergency call. “As Time Goes By” was the couple’s wedding song, so Casablanca (1942), which features the song prominently, is a natural as one of McNally’s picks.

McNally’s second choice is Mister Roberts (1955), starring Henry Fonda and an Oscar®-winning Jack Lemmon. McNalley admires the film because its title character, first played by Fonda on Broadway, is a leader “who always thinks about what he has to do for his men.”

Vernon Webb was at work in a nearby annex when the Pentagon was attacked.  He and other members of the PFPA served round-the-clock for the next several days investigating the crime scene. Webb, who became the first African-American to hold the title of Criminal Investigator in Defensive Protective Service, chose All the Young Men (1960), starring Alan Ladd, Sidney Poitier, because it was one of the movies from his youth that inspired him to enter the military. Webb served in the Army in Korea, which is the setting for this movie about racial tension among fighting Marines.

Because he “grew up on John Wayne movies,” Webb also selects Red River (1948), with Wayne as a ruthless rancher and Montgomery Clift as a young protégé who “turns out to be a better man” by learning the value of compassion.

DVD sales of The King's Speech and the penultimate Harry Potter film failed to stem a 5.7% fall in revenue to just more than £1bn for the UK video entertainment sector in the first half of the year. 

Spending on digital viewing via download and streaming services to mobile devices such as tablets rose 18% year on year, according to figures from the British Video Association (BVA). 

The BVA said that there are now 44 legal services in the UK on which consumers can download or stream video content. 

But they are yet to offset the slump in DVD and Blu-ray sales, which fell 8.1% in the first half of the year. Physical discs accounted for 96.5% of all sales in 2010. 

The biggest-selling titles on DVD and Blu-Ray in the first half of 2011 were Harry Potter – The Deathly Hallows Part 1, which has sold more than 2m discs, and The King's Speech, which has sold more than 1.2m. 

"The first half has been a bit of rollercoaster, with wallets and purses squeezed, but despite that people still found more than £1bn to spend on video entertainment, the vast majority on physical formats," said the BVA director general, Lavinia Carey. 

"Digital is growing and has huge potential with the growth of internet-connected devices such as smartphones and tablets now an accepted norm for video viewing." 

The report described the fall in total sales to £1.012bn as a "steady" performance in light of the tough economic environment. 

The BVA also said that the second half of the year is traditionally stronger than the first – the runup to Christmas tends to account for about 35% of full-year sales. 

Big name products coming to market include the third Transformers film, the latest instalment of Pirates of the Caribbean, Bridesmaids and Fast & Furious 5.
