The studio, which released a total of 16 new releases domestically this year, placed first in the North American market share with $1.96 billion, while also amassing record grosses at the international box office with $3.21 billion.

"This achievement reflects the combined efforts of our entire team across the globe and the careful process by which we select the projects and partners we believe in," said Paramount Pictures Chairman & CEO Brad Grey. "We produce pictures that aspire to entertain audiences around the world, while at the same time we have sought to find innovative ways to reach movie-goers in this changing entertainment environment.

"This year our studio reached some key milestones, including the release of three vibrant Paramount franchise pictures and our first original CGI animated film. Our studio had its first ever $1 billion worldwide grossing film in Michael Bay's hit 'Transformers: Dark of the Moon'; we successfully re-launched our 'Mission Impossible' franchise with Tom Cruise, JJ Abrams and Brad Bird; our latest installment in the 'Paranormal Activity' franchise had another $100 million dollar success; our first original animated film 'Rango,' from director Gore Verbinski, earned rave reviews and more than $100 million at the domestic box office; and we released global phenomenon 'Super 8,' directed by JJ Abrams, who will now direct the newest 'Star Trek' for 2013. We also benefited from our distribution partnerships with DreamWorks Animation and Marvel and I want to thank them both.

"Film President Adam Goodman and his team in production and development, and Vice Chairman Rob Moore and his team in marketing and distribution, did outstanding work and truly delivered. "As we prepare to celebrate Paramount's 100th year in 2012, we are all grateful to be part of this wonderful institution as it continues to prosper," added Grey.

In 2012, Paramount's release slate highlights include "World War Z," a zombie thriller starring Brad Pitt and directed by Marc Forster, "G.I. Joe: Retaliation," the next installment in the global franchise starring Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and Channing Tatum, a new chapter in the "Paranormal Activity" franchise, and "The Dictator," starring Sacha Baron Cohen and directed by Larry Charles, the team behind "Borat."

The 2011 box office results seen from the studio were built on a wide reaching range of titles, including the following (with current domestic grosses): "True Grit" ($85 mil this year, $171.2 million total), Ivan Reitman's "No Strings Attached" ($70.7 mil), Jon Chu's "Justin Bieber: Never Say Never" ($73 mil), Gore Verbinski's "Rango" ($123.5 mil), Marvel Studio's "Thor" ($181 mil), DreamWorks Animation's "Kung Fu Panda 2" ($165.2 mil), JJ Abrams "Super 8" ($127 mil), Michael Bay's "Transformers: Dark of the Moon" ($352.4 mil), Marvel Studio's "Captain America: The First Avenger" ($176.7 mil), Craig Brewer's "Footloose" ($51.7 mil), the third installment in the hit "Paranormal Activity" franchise ($104 mil), DreamWorks Animation's "Puss In Boots" ($145.8 mil), Sundance prize-winner "Like Crazy" ($3.4 mil), Martin Scorsese and GK Films' "Hugo" ($50.2 mil), Jason Reitman's "Young Adult" ($12.8 mil), Brad Bird's "Mission: Impossible — Ghost Protocol" ($142.8 mil) and Steven Spielberg's "Tintin" ($51.4 mil).

The posters, which will appear in the Brixton area in the run-up to Oxjam Brixton on October 23, employ titles such as ‘Refugees – In The House Tonight’ and ‘Badly Neglected Boy – Alive’ but are designed in the style of different musical genres.

Matthew Charlton, CEO of BETC London, says: “Oxjam is such a cool idea and we were delighted to be involved in a concept that is all about open source and empowering local people to create their own festivals under the Oxfam banner. In the world we live in now, where money is really tight and there are so many good causes to get involved with, we wanted to create some entertaining posters that create interest for what are genuinely entertaining and special events.”

Oxjam is Oxfam's month-long music festival. It runs all through October with hundreds of events around the UK, all organised by volunteers who know and love their local music scene, all raising money to save lives around the world.

BETC London’s work for Oxjam London will provide the organisers with a professional publicity boost that aids their not-for-profit endeavours and creates standout for the event at the end of a busy summer of musical festivals.

The posters include the names of the artists performing at Oxjam Brixton, including Logistics B2B Nu:Tone with SP:MC, Ayah Marar, Hang The DJ, and Elephino. The events Facebook page [URL] is included on all posters.

The business idea is forged around equal partnership, merging BETC’s creative promotional talents with the creative musical talents of artists and producers, and using both parties’ skills and connections to bring the product to market.

Matthew Charlton, CEO at BETC London, says: “Clients understand more than ever the need to be closer to culture and we believe you’ve got to build respectful relationships with partner industries to do achieve it. Worker Records is a reflection that agencies need to be respectful and put investment in to get the types of relationships and access they need. That is what we are striving to do. ”

In partnership with experienced music industry experts such as Steve Sasse, the former Head of A&R at Atlantic, and Believe distribution, Worker Records is set to produce its debut single next month. The video is currently in post production.

Music is a strong passion point for BETC London founders Neil Dawson and former musician and CEO Matthew Charlton and a vital part of the heritage of BETC Paris.

A long and deep-seated relationship with the music business is part of the culture at BETC Paris where, since October 2000, it has been behind the Panik parties. Panik, an original electronic big-dance experience run by Fabrice Brovelli and Christophe Caurret, mixes DJ sets with live performances that have seen appearances by international acts Pharrell, Groove Armada, Hot Chip, Nenah Cherry, Adamski and 2 Many DJ’s. Panik has also been staged all over the world, including New York, Bamako, Berlin, Montreal, Istanbul and Reykjavik.

Brovelli and Caurret also head up the French agency’s BETC Music, which has utilised music to great success in commercials such as Evian’s ‘We Will Rock You’. Sung by children, the reworking of the classic track went on to become a single selling 1.3 million copies.BETC Music also marked the first flight of Air France’s A380 by loading three bands on to the flight, who recorded and mixed new music for passengers.

Worker records will be releasing its first signed artist in October with an album penciled in for Spring next year.
Patrick McNally, retired Chief of Operations of the New York City Fire Department, and Vernon Webb, retired Supervisory Special Agent of the Pentagon Force Protection Agency, will join TCM weekend-daytime host Ben Mankiewicz in presenting four outstanding American films, beginning Sunday, Sept. 11, at 8 p.m. (ET).

Patrick McNally was on site at the World Trade Center when each of the twin towers fell, and worked exclusively at the site through the following November. McNally, whose 25th wedding anniversary was on Sept. 11, 2001, had planned a golf date with his wife, Liz, before he got the emergency call. “As Time Goes By” was the couple’s wedding song, so Casablanca (1942), which features the song prominently, is a natural as one of McNally’s picks.

McNally’s second choice is Mister Roberts (1955), starring Henry Fonda and an Oscar®-winning Jack Lemmon. McNalley admires the film because its title character, first played by Fonda on Broadway, is a leader “who always thinks about what he has to do for his men.”

Vernon Webb was at work in a nearby annex when the Pentagon was attacked. He and other members of the PFPA served round-the-clock for the next several days investigating the crime scene. Webb, who became the first African-American to hold the title of Criminal Investigator in Defensive Protective Service, chose All the Young Men (1960), starring Alan Ladd, Sidney Poitier, because it was one of the movies from his youth that inspired him to enter the military. Webb served in the Army in Korea, which is the setting for this movie about racial tension among fighting Marines.

Because he “grew up on John Wayne movies,” Webb also selects Red River (1948), with Wayne as a ruthless rancher and Montgomery Clift as a young protégé who “turns out to be a better man” by learning the value of compassion.

The following is the complete schedule for TCM’s commemoration of Sept. 11:

Sunday, Sept. 11
8 p.m. – Casablanca (1942), starring Humphrey Bogart, Ingrid Bergman and Claude Rains
10 p.m. – Mister Roberts (1955), starring Henry Fonda, Jack Lemmon, James Cagney and William Powell
12:15 a.m. – All the Young Men (1960), starring Alan Ladd, Sidney Poitier, James Darren and Glenn Corbett.
2 a.m. – Red River (1948), starring John Wayne, Montgomery Clift, Walter Brennan and Joanne Dru.

DVD sales of The King's Speech and the penultimate Harry Potter film failed to stem a 5.7% fall in revenue to just more than £1bn for the UK video entertainment sector in the first half of the year.

Spending on digital viewing via download and streaming services to mobile devices such as tablets rose 18% year on year, according to figures from the British Video Association (BVA).

The BVA said that there are now 44 legal services in the UK on which consumers can download or stream video content.

But they are yet to offset the slump in DVD and Blu-ray sales, which fell 8.1% in the first half of the year. Physical discs accounted for 96.5% of all sales in 2010.

The biggest-selling titles on DVD and Blu-Ray in the first half of 2011 were Harry Potter – The Deathly Hallows Part 1, which has sold more than 2m discs, and The King's Speech, which has sold more than 1.2m.

"The first half has been a bit of rollercoaster, with wallets and purses squeezed, but despite that people still found more than £1bn to spend on video entertainment, the vast majority on physical formats," said the BVA director general, Lavinia Carey.

"Digital is growing and has huge potential with the growth of internet-connected devices such as smartphones and tablets now an accepted norm for video viewing."

The report described the fall in total sales to £1.012bn as a "steady" performance in light of the tough economic environment.

The BVA also said that the second half of the year is traditionally stronger than the first – the runup to Christmas tends to account for about 35% of full-year sales.

Big name products coming to market include the third Transformers film, the latest instalment of Pirates of the Caribbean, Bridesmaids and Fast & Furious 5.

Top 10 titles sold on DVD and Blu-ray in the six months to 30 June 2011

1. Harry Potter – The Deathly Hallows Part 1 (Warner Home Video) – has sold more than 2m and had the biggest week one sales so far this year of 1.6m discs

2. The King's Speech (Momentum) – more than 1.2m

3. Despicable Me (Universal Pictures) – 854,000, tops the children's chart
